A terrible journey is based on the material for the as yet uncompleted feature film Sieben Methoden... / Nous Avons Fait Un Voyage Affreux by Jan Peters and Hélèna Villovitch. It's about a travel journal. The 20 year old Paul lives in a small town in Northern France and films everyone and everything with his super-8 camera. One day Paul meets Anna and Franck from Paris. These two have set out spontaneously in their car on a journey with no specific destination. Paul senses an opportunity and suggests that they drive to Berlin together. The three of them cross Belgium, but they never really get beyond a certain motorway service station. Here Paul, with his camera, soon gets to know the entire personnel and the different travellers.
Finally Paul, who runs out of film material, steals a drunk's video camera and takes it to Berlin with him. Later he writes a letter to the owner to explain why he committed the theft...

For intermedium 2 Peters/Villovitch will develop an expanded cinema performance from the whole filmed and recorded material. Not only will a picture be projected onto a centrally installed screen, but numerous film projectors will also project onto a number of surfaces (often simultaneously). These surfaces will include, for example, the flats of the audience's hands, where a moving projector will be used to give "private shows", while at the same time a projection will flicker on the white garment of a performer who will give a live commentary on his appearance in the film as it is projected. In this way, A terrible journey will cross the boundaries of a conventional film performance in the acoustic domain as well, since normally all the sounds would come from a prepared tape.
