DIY : 1/Mini qin, 2/Full Size Qin, 3/Qin w pickup
1/
Mini travelling qin (version #2 coming)
Description: a short flatboard stringed in the proportion of a miniature guqin to fit into a suitcase for use in Hotel room, on ordinary desk surfaces - with drawer opened to serve as sound box. Designed for practicing fingerings while away from home.
Designer: Shuen-git Chow 2005
Maker: Mikael Besserer, master model maker (Paris)
Notes: This was a model based on an idea of affordable guqins for beginners by Chen Changlin. Originally planned as a DIY project for students. I first made one to see how difficult it would be for students to do it. Here, I used an ancient text on guqin making to draft the pattern. Mr.Besserer kindly completed the basic structure for me.
2/ Half HunDun qin (The half mesmerised qin)
Description: a full size traditional lacquer on wood core guqin
Designer: Shuen-git Chow 2006
Maker: wood embryo TIAN ShuongQun (Beijing); lacquer coat: SgNC; Final Polish: Mr.Chong (Guangzhou)
Advisor: Zheng Ming Zhong (Beijing), TEO Kheng Chong (Hong Kong)
Notes: The process was long - started in 2002, due to scheduling difficulties, finally just to finish it to be in time for an exhibition I had Mr.Chong complete the fine tuning at the end.
I hope to be able to make one completely from beginning to end next time
