⁄⁄ Beijing Moves, 2005 video installation

In developing Beijing, the distances which bodies have to traverse are extending both horizontally and vertically, and to a massive extent. In order to overcome these stretches, means of transportation have to be resorted to. The bicycle, which was the primary means of transportation for a long time, is frequently being 'overtaken' (though not in a literal sense) by underground trains, busses and private vehicles. In reality, the huge increase of private cars, especially during the long rush-hour traffic, has meanwhile led to traffic jams on Beijing's ring roads so that the creeping and, in the worse case, completely stopped cars are overtaken by the traditional cyclists ⁄⁄ ... ⁄⁄
