Text

The working processes of French artist Brice Dellsperger resemble those of Sherman in that he frequently takes roles in his own videos, playing in a variety of clothes alongside other 'actor'. His associative remakes relate not to classic paintings, but to movies and movie sequences, accompanied by the original soundtracks. The sixteen-minute Body Double 17, 2001 is based on a scene from David Lynch's Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, 1992, which Dellsperger casts with Morgane Rousseau and Gwen Roch in the leads. Body Double X of 2000 is a complete, 102-minute remake of Andrzej Zulawski's 1975 movie L'important c'est d'aimer, featuring performance artist Jean-Luc Verna. Both videos belong to a series of seventeen begun in 1995 whose titles echo that of Brian de Palma's thriller Body Double (1984). All the videos cast individual actors in more than one role - hence the reference to the 'body double' of de Palma's movie title.
