Andy Warhol *1928, Pittsburgh ?1987, New York [USA]; Warhol graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1949 after studying pictorial design and then moved to New York. There he worked in advertising, window dressing, magazine illustration, and book jacket- and record-cover design. He continued to publish drawings and books until the beginning of the 60s when he started comic-strip and portrait paintings. His studio at 231 East 47th Street became known as »The Factory«. After filmmaking and Velvet Underground-related performances, painting became Warhol's main occupation. He died in February 1987 after beginningthe »History of American TV«.
